The aim of this section is to award European films that stood out during the year and that offer something new to the film language. Among the members of the jury there will be personalities from the various artistic fields, a choice that meets the Festival’s concept of transversality. There will also be another honorary award for the second film chosen by the selection committee.
The official award statues for the EFF'09 is made by the second year students of the Wooden Arts and Crafts course of the Ricardo do Espírito Santo Silva Foundation.

The best mean to promote and make the European cinema known, is a project co-financed by the Media Programme and the biggest European film entities. Over past years, Cineuropa has played an essential role in the “europeisation” of cinema, by exchanging news and other relevant information to better understand this form of art. It will be present at the Estoril Film Festival for the second consecutive year, with the Cineuropa Award, to be given by an important representative of the European film culture, to one of the 12 competing films.

MEO in an associaton with Estoril Film Festival once again encourages the work of the best film schools of Europe. The Meo Award – Best Short Film – established in 2008 by the PT Group brand aims to stimulate new talent in competition with works from the European cinema schools. The prize money of 5.000€ intends to encourage and sponsor the development of the winning team’s next project.

The ‘L’Oreal Paris – Young Talent’ Award was established in 2007, with the intent of contributing to the development of the careers of young actors in Portugal. It is an Award that distinguishes artistic potential and which may be a stimulus for the continuation of quality work in the area of interpretation on “the big screen”. It is composed of financial support worth five thousand euros as a scholarship to be invested on education.
Catarina Wallenstein and Sara Carinhas were the previous editions’ winners. This year a new young talent will be elected, in accordance with the choice of a jury yet to be designated.
L’Oreal Paris is proud to establish this award supporting young acting talent in Portugal and to be a part of and to support the development of the Seventh Art in the country.
